I`m near completing a new track. My only problem is that the kick isn`t as hard and deep as I would like it to be. I`ve tried many different techniques and still can`t get it right.
Background info: I usually make samples with Acid and work them over to Reason. I love the TR-909! I only have Acid, here in Japan.
Anyway, I was wondering if turning down the tracking of the samples combined with hats, snares, and effects would help. Then I would simply turn up the kick. I`ve tried compression, but when it gets to sound the way I want it to; it clips! I`ve shortened this track down to 2 channels. Samples/FX/Hats/Snares, and Kick is all alone.
If all else fails, I`ll just recreate it in Reason when I get home.
Would a sound engineer be able to bring things like that out?

Well, I think it might be sample based. I don`t have Reason here, so I downloaded the TR 909 samples from a site. It sounds very different from the Reason Refill TR909.
I followed your tips and they helped greatly.
Thanks!

Use a sample-based sound for the kickdrum. For example download the kicks from my samples-section.. Use sidechain compression: Kickdrum--> Send Chain MainSample (and bassdrum) --> Receive Chain This is a common technique for the pump effect.
Do your compressors support sidechaining? http://www.inlounge.de And remember: Chuck Norris can divide by zero!

dB Audioware Dynamics VST plugin can do this. But a different sound for the kick should help more. http://www.inlounge.de And remember: Chuck Norris can divide by zero!
