Its evil to expect me to round it up into one track, so I've had to compile my top ten ever, and ALL are genre-defining tracks, well worth seeking out if you haven't heard them before, and guaranteed to get the crowd moving ANYWHERE:

1) Stardust - Music Sounds Better With You
2) Play Paul - Spaced Out
3) Paul Johnson - Follow This Beat
4) Bob Sinclar (Thomas Bangalter) - Gym Tonic
5) David Morales - Needin' U
6) AVH - U Don't Know Me
7) Le Knight Club - Hysteria II
8) John 'Julius' Knight - Dancin In Paradise
9) Vinyl Fever - 04H50AM On The Floor
10) Daft Punk - Around The World

But if I had to pick one house tune as my all time favourite, Stardust would win the crown by a mile. Its everything I love about house music, rolled up into a fantastic track.

Wow! That`s a great list. Those are some of my favorites too. The only one I haven`t heard is #8, even though I have a few other tracks by him. I`ll check it out.

I like house music to be funky as hell. Don't really have a lot of time for these 80s influenced loop tracks, its not really house music as far as I'm concerned.

I know what you mean. I`ve only recently gotten into the 80`s influenced type. I heard Out of Touch (Didn`t Dave Armstrong have a version?). When I went to my first club ever (Here in Japan), DJ Emma played. He was excellent! Even though it was mostly maybe Tech-House, standout tracks were Call On Me, Waiting For A Star to Fall, and Make Your Move.

Not as good as the funky as hell type, but it gets the job done.

I guess that`s the new direction it`s headed in because I don`t really know of any recent funky releases. Mainly because there is NO scene in Rock Hill, SC. The releases I have track of are only by the Dynamic Rockers.

It seems that most people that really knew how to funk it up have either vanished into a dark void or simply went into a different genre.

An example is Deaf N` Dumb Crew A.K.A. Sebastien Leger.

He has some really funky tracks, but I`m not a huge fan of his other releases.

Well I agree with both of you. But it is probably just a question of taste since housemusic in general is sample based music.

I really prefer those discosample based tracks too.

btw.: Welcome on board Eddie!

The thing that attracted me to house in the first place was the idea that someone would take an old disco or funk tune, and either redo it in a modern way, or cut it up to make something completely new and innovative. Nowadays, the death of house music seems to be in nauseating loop tracks, and that started as soon as Prydz ripped off Bangalter/Falcon for Call On Me.

Most funky house artists are starting to turn to the sound of 80s style production. A case in point in AVH's new album, which is such a massive, amateurish pile of crap, its hard to believe that the same guy made "Flowerz".

As for funky house, there are still people around who do it (off the top of my head I'd say Automatic & Silk), but sadly its not in fashion at the moment, unless its club house like Soulfuric's output, a label I'm quite partial to.

(PS. Dave Armstrong made versions of both Out Of Touch AND Make Your Move, well before Uniting Nations and Junior Jack ripped him off).

As for Armand Van Helden; I only like about 5 of his tracks. Although he is quite innovative, in my opinion ALL of his alblums sound like amateurish pieces of crap.

I saw a 3 disc collection set on sale and I thought to myself, WOW! I`m lucky to get AVH for this cheap!

LOL! I definitely found out why it was on sale!

Like you, I didn`t expect that from the same person who made Flowerz and U Don`t Know Me.

Few tracks stuck out, but they failed to capture me.

His interludes were pretty funny though!

9/18/05- I dusted off my AVH CD`s to try to understand his music. It`s starting to make sense, therefore I take back half of what I said.
